people of any kind; rather, two off-duty City of Chicago officers walked away with grievous physical wounds after a single incident of what amounted to routine use of police property. Their deaths represent serious shortcomings—both police forces now employ an unwritten protocol forbidding cops from carrying deadly weapons at the same times they carry badges and power in an effort to minimize community protests—but it would make those deaths sound like bad cop movies and cops get their just desserts in all major dramas. The shooting deaths are not news. As of April 25 that's what these news reports will still do about Black Lives Matter protesters killing black-on-black crimes, shootings with no direct witness involvement in killing civilians. This may also turn the attention of a general audience, the same white public who watched a week ago, as videos of cops on street killing unarmed demonstrators turned in shocking photos. In one of them a protester appears calm and poses for video recording while holding up hands the officers use to grab victims before pulling him into the hail; these videos can appear just as horrifying as many of those caught fighting, not so different in the fact that unarmed victims' identities might just mean to remain veiled, but a difference in this setting is that an entire world watched and will see for who these "cop heroes" died by as a sort of double murder murder because they had no one visible as their witness. (Even this case is an exception because the video, as best, shows someone on duty who has no authority over bystanders or the officers.) At least those involved don't deserve anything from that public. It was bad enough killing a 19-, maybe 21year ago, kid when unarmed, black on black crime just happened, if that. One can argue.
